Category: Renovations & Restorations

At A1 Complete Builders, our Renovations & Restorations service is devoted to breathing new life into older, damaged or heritage structures—allowing you to preserve character while ensuring safety, comfort and longevity. Whether it’s repairing damp, mouldy walls, restoring lime ceilings, re-plastering interiors with traditional materials or revitalising period facades, we bring expertise and respect to every project.

We begin with a detailed assessment of your property—looking at structural integrity, moisture ingress, historic fabric and architectural detail—then plan sensitive repairs that align with conservation best practices. Using traditional skills and materials where appropriate—lime plaster, natural renders, repair mortars—we combine them with modern techniques to meet current building regulations, energy efficiency and durability.

Our experienced team covers all phases: repair works, refurbishment, decorative restoration, internal remodeling and full project management. With A1 Complete Builders, your property is not merely renovated—it is lovingly restored, protecting its heritage while making it warm, safe, beautiful and fit for modern living.

Polventon

Our client found our website on Google.  We were instructed to complete a small job.  Following this they asked us to renovate the downstairs and garden area of their property.  This included internally a new kitchen, utility room and dog wash room together bi fold doors from IQ glass. Externally, new pathways and steps constructed and build, porcelain and Cinder planks throughout, hot tub and sauna area, supplying and installing Gabion Baskets and constructing new block curvature walls all stone faced with Trevillet Natural Stone which was locally sourced from Trevillet Quarry.

Laundry Cottage

This project came as a recommendation from a previous client.  We were asked to carryout general alterations – new kitchen and utility, handmade wardrobes and cupboards to several rooms, new serving hatch aperture between kitchen/lounge, new porcelain tiles throughout, electrical and plumbing work.

Gable End Rebuild

We have been instructed to rebuild the gable end, external chimney in an old cob cottage which collapsed in Fraddon, Cornwall.  A crack appeared and within two hours the whole gable chimney breast and chimney collapsed.  A1 Complete Builders Ltd have rebuilt the whole gable using around a thousand cob blocks supplied by Cornish Lime.  We also rebuilt the chimney and lime plastered using St - Astiers N.H.L 2 mixed with C.L.S 30 and 35.

Damp/Mouldy Walls

A1 Complete Builders have been recommended by Mr Phil Northey of Tecbuild to undertake some remedial works to a damp property.

Surface condensation is by far the most frequently encountered form of dampness in buildings and generally it is the most easily recognised with visual signs of mould grown in the main living room and solid walls construction. The temperature at which air can no longer hold excess water vapour is know as the Dew Point, surface condensation is thus formed when moist laden air comes into contact with cold surfaces which then becomes cooled. If cooled far enough it reaches the dew point temperature and the water vapour is released as condensation and associated black mould growth. Therefore, remedial works will have to be carried out IWI Insulation on living room walls (Isotherm or Marmox Board) and re-skim plus decoration on Anti-mould emulsion, installation of a Positive Input Ventilation (PVP) into the existing loft space and the use of Dryseal Water Repellence on existing stone/render from wall externally.

  • Prepare walls ready to install 1.W.1 Wykamo Thermal Internal Eco System
  • Wash all affected walls with a Wykamo Mould Removal Eradication Kit
  • Mix and lay on walls a Iso-Therm Bond Adhesive. Once cut to size lay on the thin internal insulation and damp control (TWI) system ready to skim plaster over

Result is NO MORE BLACK MOULD!
